What this profession is
Section titled “What this profession is”The necromancer is a dark caster: it curses enemies, raises and commands the dead, and transforms its own body for combat advantages. On this shard Necromancy is real (the EJ expansion stack includes Age-of-Shadows-era skills). It pairs naturally with a mage (for Magery utility) or with a weapon and Bushido — the latter is the famous sampire.
Core skills
Section titled “Core skills”- Necromancy — the casting skill; sets spell power, success, and which spells you can use.
- Spirit Speak — boosts your Necromancy effects and lets you drain life from nearby corpses to heal yourself. A necromancer without Spirit Speak is half-powered.
- A secondary: Magery + Evaluating Intelligence for a full caster, or a weapon skill (Swordsmanship/etc.) + Tactics/Anatomy for a dexxer hybrid.
- Meditation (caster builds) and Resisting Spells round it out.
Special reagents, not the eight
Section titled “Special reagents, not the eight”Necromancy does not use the eight mage reagents. It consumes its own set: bat wing,
grave dust, daemon blood, nox crystal, and pig iron. Buy them from mage/reagent vendors and
keep a deep stock — each spell lists its own combination. (Confirmed in the spell files under
servuo: Scripts/Spells/Necromancy/.) Mana, not tithing, pays for the cast on top of regs.
The build
Section titled “The build”There is no dedicated necromancer template page yet. For a caster necromancer, start from the Mage Template and swap in Necromancy + Spirit Speak alongside Magery + Eval + Meditation + Resist. For a melee necromancer, start from the Warrior Template and fit Necromancy + Spirit Speak around the weapon core. Either way, see 7x GM Templates for squeezing it all under the 700-point cap.
How to play it
Section titled “How to play it”Read Magic Schools and Spellcasting for the casting model, and Meditation & Mana for mana recovery. Melee hybrids should also read Combat Advanced.
The toolkit (all confirmed under servuo: Scripts/Spells/Necromancy/):
- Forms — Wraith Form (mana-leech, wraith body), Lich Form (mana regen, weakness to fire), and Horrific Beast (a melee body). Vampiric Embrace gives life-leech on every hit — the cornerstone of the sampire.
- Curses — Corpse Skin, Blood Oath, Strangle, Pain Spike, Wither (area) weaken and bleed targets.
- Undead — Animate Dead raises corpses into servants; Summon Familiar gives a personal pet.
- Healing — drain life off corpses with Spirit Speak between fights.
- Magic item properties — caster necros want Lower Reagent Cost, Lower Mana Cost, Spell Damage Increase, and Faster Casting; melee necros want hit-leech and swing speed instead.
- Armor — balanced resists; some forms override your appearance and stats.
- Weapons for hybrid builds. Carry a full set of the five special reagents.
Making a living
Section titled “Making a living”Necromancers farm dungeons solo: curse-and-nuke a target, heal off the bodies it leaves, and loot the corpses. Undead-heavy and high-tier content rewards the curse kit well. Sell surplus via Vendors & Banking.
